The ability to make comments and respond to postings is what makes a blog a blog. For both personal and business blogging, comments are the feedback that adds spice to these online conversations. Blog writers will post information they think is important, but it is the comments that reinforces what is important to readers. Comments are what change a monologues into collaboration.

The vast majority of readers leave a blog without leaving a comment or contributing to it in any way. The best kinds of comments do come from thoughtful people who add more information about a topic. Good blog commenters add to the discussion and are known as knowledgeable, informative, friendly and engaged.

Guidelines for adding comments to blogs really is just proper blogging etiquette. What are some good guidelines?

1. Don’t change the subject.
2. Keep comments short and to the point
3. Contribute and add to the conversation.
4. Read the entire posting plus comments before adding your comments.
5. Don’t spam by trying to sell your product or service.
6. Refrain from personal attacks or being disrespectful of others.
