Marketing Using Squidoo

This blog entry was posted on March 9, 2008.

Squidoo.com is a highly popular website where users can create pages about any subject for free. This is a great way to get additional exposure for your products, your brand or your website.

One of the challenges that a small business faces is “getting the word out.” Advertising is expensive. Turning to various forms of social media is an excellent alternative. Squidoo is one of those free alternatives that should be used along with a website and a blog.

Squidoo was developed by Seth Godin with the idea that nearly everyone is an expert on something. This site allows people to voice their opinion, provide information, or recommend products they like. Squidoo’s users are called “Lensmasters” and the pages they create are called “Lenses.”

To be effective each page or lens should be focused on a single topic and should offer valuable information that your targeted customer would find useful. Here is a link to my lens where I provided some excerpts from my new book on blog marketing and then provided a link to Amazon.com where interested readers could purchase a copy.

Squidoo Marketing Tips

  1. Focus on a single subject that would be interesting to your targeted customer.
  2. Visit the more popular lenses on Squidoo and see how they present their information and tell their story.
  3. Choose your keywords carefully. Use phrases that people are actually searching for and that describe your topic.
  4. Make your content very interesting and compelling. Something people want to read and even show to their friends.
  5. Bookmark your lens with Del.icio.us, Blinklist.com or Ma.gnolia.com.
  6. Using your StumbleUpon, give it an “I Like It” thumbs up.
  7. Write about your lens in your blog and link to it.
  8. Bookmarking, stumbling and linking help promote your lens and move it up in the rankings on squidoo, bringing you even more traffic.

Squidoo should be used by businesses to expand their advertising budgets, improve their branding and reach new audiences.
